Balen Essak-Hernandez is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in Connecticut. Balen is originally from Milwaukee, WI and is currently a law student at Yale Law School. After graduation, Balen hopes to become a public defender and is specifically interested in capital defense. At Yale, Balen serves as an Admissions Representative for the Law School Admissions Office. He is also a Board Member of the Yale Defenders’ Society, of the Green Haven Prison Project, and of the Capital Assistance Project. He has also served as a Dean’s Advisor.
Prior to law school, Balen spent two years working as a Research Assistant for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, DC. Before this role, Balen graduated from Washington & Lee University with a major in Economics and a minor in Poverty Studies, graduating Summa Cum Laude. During college, Balen was the president of the mock trial team, worked at a non-profit on campus, and organized an art exhibit showcasing works created by incarcerated individuals.
Over the past seven years, Balen has served as an economics tutor for high school and college students, a teaching aid for a coding class, and an LSAT tutor, among other things.
