Benjamin Thomas is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in Scotland. Originally from Ohio, Ben earned his bachelor’s degrees from Emory University with highest honors and concentrations in political science, comparative literature, and Russian. He then enrolled at the University of St. Andrews, where he is completing his Master’s in Comparative Literature. While at St. Andrews, he serves as a Graduate Assistant, as well as a Teaching Assistant for a student research program. Ben will matriculate as a J.D. candidate at Stanford Law School in Fall 2024.
While at Emory, many of Ben’s most formative experiences involved teaching, from planning and helping teach six undergraduate and graduate courses to serving as managing editor at both Emory’s student newspaper and its undergraduate research journal. These roles instilled in him a love for teaching as a formative, narrative-based partnership, encouraging students to clarify their values, reflect on the significance of their past experiences, and consider the questions that fascinate them most. Supporting students in synthesizing all of these into a compelling story of growth, whether in the classroom or a newsroom, never fails to fulfill him. Most of all, he loves to help students think through the fascinating connections and overlaps between their areas of interest.
Ben has published research in biochemistry, comparative literature, education policy, Russian studies, ethics, and comparative politics, and his internship experiences range from an international peace-building nonprofit and a congressional campaign to a digital literary studio and California’s Environmental Protection Agency. Finding both differences and common themes between these opportunities has helped him immensely in working with others to develop their narratives in their own voices, no matter what disciplines interest them most. Ben brings years of experience in admissions counseling to his role as a Graduate Coach, having helped many students earn a spot at top-ranked schools.
