About Christopher Carr

Christopher Carr is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in California. As a professional with over 17 years of experience in higher education and professional writing, Christopher brings a wealth of knowledge to his role as a coach and mentor. Chris holds a PhD in Slavic Studies from Brown University, along with an MA in Russian literature & film and a BBA in Business Administration from Middlebury College and the University of Michigan, respectively. With his professional roles and experiences abroad, Christopher now serves as a Graduate Coach ready to guide his students through the intricacies of the college application process.

Before his graduate studies at Brown, Chris taught various writing courses at the City University of New York and the College of New Rochelle, as well as a writing and literature class for adult learners. As a graduate student, he taught First- and Second-Year Russian and served as a teaching assistant at Brown’s Writing Center—mentoring students throughout their writing and editorial development. Following his undergraduate studies, Chris volunteered as a Peace Corps Operative in Uzbekistan, where he taught business, economics, and English at the secondary and university levels. Currently, Chris is the founder of One Point Mentorship—an organization focused on guiding high school and college students through their journeys of self-discovery and personal growth.

After earning his PhD, Chris joined The Dean of the College Office at Brown. There, he served as the Assistant Director of Fellowships and Pre-Professional Writing Adviser at Brown University for over five years. In this role, he mentored Brown undergraduates and recent alumni through a rigorous self-reflective application process for 20 different nationally competitive fellowships, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, and Truman Scholarships. During his tenure, Brown won the most Fulbright awards out of any school nationwide.

As a Graduate Coach at InGenius Prep, Chris aims to use his vast expertise and knowledge in multiple fields to inspire and support students in their academic pursuits. His past teaching, mentoring, and advising roles extend far beyond the bounds of higher education, equipping Chris with the skills to help students craft compelling narratives and develop strong characters. With his guidance and dedication, Chris will foster a growth mindset and leadership traits in his mentees, ensuring that students are well-prepared for success in college and beyond.
