David Maia is a Graduate Coach at InGenius Prep, based in St. Louis, Missouri. David brings years of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds to his role as a Graduate Coach. Originally from Northern California, David worked with students on the Autism Spectrum Disorder to help them gain the confidence to participate in team sports.
While at Northwestern, David was a tutor at the local YMCA, providing academic support to elementary and middle school students. Upon graduating from Northwestern, David completed a year of AmeriCorps with City Year Chicago, working in a 5th & 6th grade math class at Dewey Elementary Academy of Fine Arts. David then moved to St. Louis for his master’s degree, and he began working at City Academy. At City Academy, David supports 7th-12th grade students with academics, social-emotional skills, job readiness preparation, and college and scholarship applications.
David’s experience working with students from a wide range of grades and backgrounds has enhanced his ability to build trusting relationships with students, and help them along their personal journey. He loves learning what his students are passionate about and finding ways to highlight their strengths, allowing them to accomplish goals they didn’t previously think they were capable of.
