Katy Montoya is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in Texas. She has experience working with students in international contexts. She holds an MA in Near Eastern Studies from Princeton University, where she specialized in Syrian cultural history. Her academic work at Princeton was advised by Dr. Max Weiss, and her MA Thesis was titled “Orienting Syrian Cultural Production Toward Syria’s Revolutionary Masses.” Katy also holds a BA in Political Science and Islamic Studies from Swarthmore College, where she was awarded the 2015 Judith Polgar Ruchkin Prize for her senior thesis and received a Fulbright-Hays grant for summer language study.
Katy has worked as a in the college admissions field since 2020. She provided guidance on the college and transfer application process. She also taught academic and creative writing courses to students who achieved distinctions in writing competitions such as NYT Summer Reading, John Locke, and The Concord Review.
Prior to her work in education, Katy served as a Legal Assistance Coordinator for the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) in Amman and Beirut from 2015 to 2018. In this role, she managed a legal information hotline, screened refugees for resettlement programs, and submitted referrals to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
As a Graduate Coach, she helps students find creative solutions to their problems. As a filmmaker she knows how to deliver constructive feedback to her students. Her creative writing experience helps her students find their voices and get to the root of what they want their essays to say. She is also proficient in English, Spanish, Modern Standard and Levantine Arabic, and French.
