Hi, I’m Kevin! I am a Graduate Coach at InGenius Prep. I was born and raised in Oakland, California. As the first in my family to attend college, I graduated from Claremont McKenna College (CMC), where I majored in Government. Taking advantage of the Claremont Colleges Consortium system, I also took seven semesters of Mandarin Chinese at Pomona College. At CMC, I worked as a tour guide and Multicultural Ambassador for our Office of Admissions. Furthermore, after my sophomore year, I studied abroad at the Shanghai Jiaotong University via Columbia University’s Business Chinese Summer Program, which sparked my interest in China’s relationship with Latin America.
Upon graduating from CMC, I began my graduate studies at San Francisco State University (SFSU), where I earned a Masters degree in Chinese Linguistics and Literature. At SFSU, I specialized in Applied Chinese Linguistics and Modern Chinese Literature, studying works from authors such as Lu Xun, Gao Xingjian, and Bai Xianyong. Further feeding my passion for Sino-Latin American relations, I researched the recent impact of Latin American magical realism on Modern Chinese Literature. Outside of academics, I was also actively involved in the Associated Students of SFSU and participated in SFSU’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellowship Program.
After graduating from SFSU, I continued my graduate studies at Columbia University’s Political Science MA program. During my time at Columbia, I took PhD-level coursework in regression analysis using R, mathematics (i.e., statistics, probability, linear algebra, calculus), comparative politics, and international political economy. Most recently, I participated in the 2022 US Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship Program (Mandarin) at the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan.
In my free time, I enjoy watching Chinese and Taiwanese films, spending time with my family and cats, as well as playing Irish gigs, Mariachi music, and classical music on the violin.
