Kristen Leer is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep. A professional in writing, media, and higher education, Kristen brings a wealth of research, educational, professional, and technical experience to her role as a Graduate Coach. Kristen earned her BA in Psychology, Classic Civilization, and Religious Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she also earned honors with distinction on her psychological and theological theses. Her experience as a student and researcher in higher education has given her a keen sense of the application process. Now, she works to help aspiring students succeed in their college applications.
In her prior roles, Kristen’s experience has revolved around the intersectional relationship between trauma, media, and culture, specifically looking at how marginalized digital users conceptualize traumatic media and, in turn, are impacted by it psychologically and physically. Kristen’s work has also extended into the humanities, specifically investigating the horror cinematic genre through its representation of trauma/mental health. Kristen’s work has been featured in several public-facing and academic writing projects, such as a book chapter in The Oxford Handbook of Black Horror Film! Throughout her time, Kristen’s experience has allowed her to serve as a mentor for her peers and upcoming students. Now, she works to help others achieve their goals by enhancing their college applications and contributing to their success in their programs of interest.
As a Graduate Coach, Kristen’s vast experience across several fields has given her interdisciplinary knowledge, which she applies to her counseling strategy. Kristen has served as a writing specialist, college coach, and mentor for undergraduate and graduate students. She understands deeply the experiences of first-generation diverse students who desire to pursue graduate school. With her guidance, Kristen aims to position students for academic and professional success by helping them perfect their college applications and get accepted into their dream schools.
