Michael Cooper is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in Idaho. Mike, as he prefers to be called, grew up in the town of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, before attending Dartmouth College, where he graduated with a major in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and a minor in Education. During the summer after his first year at Dartmouth, Mike spent three months in China as a volunteer English teacher in Jiangxi and Hebei provinces organizing summer camps for underprivileged youth. Mike’s experience teaching in China during the summer of 2009 inspired him to pursue the Education minor at Dartmouth and to enroll in Chinese language courses in the fall of that year.
Upon finishing his undergraduate studies, Mike moved to Beijing to enroll in the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies (IUP), an advanced Chinese language program sponsored by Tsinghua University and a consortium of ten elite North American universities. After completing his language studies, Mike worked as a Senior Associate for Teneo, a global CEO advisory firm. In his capacity at Teneo, Mike focused primarily on advising CEOs and executives of multinational companies on geopolitical risk.
Mike has had the privilege of working with students for the past ten years as an education consultant. He enjoys helping students engage in self-reflection, find their unique voice, and craft their own narrative to present to school admissions officers. Mike’s previous experiences as teacher enable him to effectively address issues whenever necessary. A trained writer and editor, Mike is highly skilled in guiding students through expressing their ideas clearly and effectively in application essays.
