Xi Li is a Graduate Coach and artist from Suzhou, China who is currently based in New York. Xi earned her MFA in Photography from Yale University’s School of Art. Prior to this, she received a Bachelor of Design from Pratt Institute. Her practice addresses the unreliability of images and the fallibility of memory—the inability to translate the context and nuances of memory. Xi explores the process of image-making and transformation of images in her studio-based practice through photography, video and installation.
Xi’s work has been exhibited internationally in François Ghebaly in Los Angeles, Amanita, LATITUDE Gallery and Inna Art Space in New York City, Aperture Gallery in London, and MadeIn Gallery in Shanghai and will be included in the Nanjing Art Fair International. She is the recipient of Google’s Creator Labs Photo Fund in partnership with Aperture. Her self-published book “Traces of Invisibilities” has been shortlisted for Photo 2020 x Perimeter International Photobook Prize.
While in the Yale MFA program, Xi served as a Teaching Assistant. She has years of experience of fine art program admissions and portfolio reviews, having done so since the beginning of her graduate school career. At InGenius Prep, Xi focuses on sharing her knowledge of the art world and admissions with her students to help them create convincing applications and innovative portfolios.
