InGenius Prep’s Soft Skills courses are designed and taught by scholars who have a deep understanding of the admissions landscape and the skills needed to succeed. With college in mind, these courses develop students’ soft skills to promote a holistic admissions preparation process.
Admissions Officers at top-ranked universities evaluate applications holistically. This means they are interested in understanding applicants’ tangible achievements as well as their personalities. While a student may have a well-developed academic and extracurricular profile, they may be struggling in other areas. These courses are designed to target weaknesses and actively develop skills that will prepare students to enter the U.S. college academic system successfully and thrive in these environments.
Soft Skills courses are offered in different cohorts throughout the year. They are open to students of any learning age, starting from 8th grade.
The American Culture Studies Course focuses on improving students’ grammatical knowledge of English while they learn and discuss American history, geography, and pop culture. Every week, students will focus on a particular topic about America and learn grammar points through diverse reading, writing, listening, and speaking assignments. Students will develop study tools that they can use even after the class ends as they continue to study English.
The Academic Skills Preparation Program is designed to help students develop fundamental academic, organizational, and interpersonal skills. These transferable skills will help them succeed as they transition to high school, and later to college. This class is project-based and students will work independently and in teams to apply the skills they learn as they explore an exciting topic of their choice. This course will challenge students, so they should be curious, committed, and open to trying things in a new way. In return, they will learn from their peers, develop sustainable habits, and become more confident and prepared students overall.
The Social-Emotional Learning course is for students to learn more about and strengthen social-emotional competencies relevant to high school and college success. Students will work with an instructor in a small group to enhance their knowledge and skills related to relationship building, social awareness, self-awareness, and self-management. Session topics include active listening, developing a growth mindset, and giving and accepting feedback. Outside of group sessions, students will practice and reflect on using what they learn in their daily lives.
Debate combines the arts of reading, writing, thinking, and speaking, and develops skills that will help students far beyond tournaments. Through debate, students learn to form, articulate, and evaluate arguments — skills that are essential to becoming an engaged, intellectual student. Through our Public Speaking and Debate course, students work directly with an expert Debate Coach to enhance their public speaking abilities and sharpen their argumentative skills. Students will graduate from this program ready to thrive as leaders in school, in college, and in their future careers.
