Krishna Mashruwala is a Graduate Coach who finished the Master of Mathematics at the University of Warwick with First Class Honours. His thesis generalised separator theorems to non-convex intersection graphs, original research in graph theory, and earlier in his degree he wrote on the group theory and combinatorics behind Rubik’s Cubes. He describes his way of working as taking something people find intimidating, finding the structure underneath it, and explaining it so that it stops being intimidating.
Krishna came to Warwick from Deira International School in Dubai, where he was Valedictorian and Deputy Head Boy and earned 44 points in the IB Diploma, with 7s in Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL, Economics HL, Physics HL, Chemistry HL, French Ab Initio, and English Language and Literature SL. He spent a year as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Warwick, supervising two groups of five first-year undergraduates, marking two assignments a week, and breaking down the parts of the course they found hardest; just as often he was the first person they came to for advice on managing their time and handling the transition into a demanding degree.
Since graduating he has worked in quantitative finance. As a quant research intern at Aurum International in the UAE he engineered an end-to-end data pipeline in Python to clean and process raw data and forecast gold trading opportunities, improving the firm’s strategy by 4.5% on a three-year backtest, and he presented his data-driven recommendations directly to the CEO. He has also interned in private equity with the Oman India Joint Investment Fund, conducting primary and secondary market research and presenting strategic options to the executive team, and he now runs his own live statistical arbitrage strategy.
Having recently navigated applications to competitive mathematics and quantitative programms himself, Krishna knows how these processes look from the applicant’s side of the desk and how much difference a clear, well-argued narrative makes. As a Graduate Coach, he pairs academic rigor with pastoral support, and having grown up in Dubai, studied in the UK, and worked across the UAE and India, he particularly enjoys working with international students weighing up where in the world to build their academic careers.
