Anupam Debashis Roy is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep and a DPhil candidate in Sociology at the University of Oxford, where he also serves as a Registered Tutor in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at Lady Margaret Hall. His own path through three highly selective institutions across two continents — Howard University, the London School of Economics, and Oxford — combined with over a decade of teaching, mentoring, and editorial work at every level, gives him a firsthand and practiced understanding of what strong applications require and exactly how to help students build them.
Anupam’s teaching at Oxford is both formal and rigorous. As a Registered Oxford Tutor, he was trained in the university’s tutorial method by PPE course coordinators and currently teaches weekly tutorials to PPE students at Lady Margaret Hall — the one-on-one, argument-intensive format that Oxford is world-famous for, and one that translates directly into the kind of precise, demanding coaching that helps personal statements and research proposals reach their highest level. He is simultaneously a Senior Lecturer at North South University in Dhaka, where he designs curricula and assessments and teaches Politics, Sociology, History, and Philosophy to both undergraduate and graduate students. Over a decade of English teaching across settings as varied as London secondary schools, IELTS preparation centers, and students with special educational needs has made him an unusually versatile and adaptive mentor.
Anupam’s academic record reflects exceptional performance at every level of his education. At Howard University, he graduated magna cum laude on a full-tuition Legacy Scholarship and won both the Best Overall Research Award and the Best Research in Social Sciences and Law Award at HU Research Week. At LSE, he was awarded the Rezaur Rahman Scholarship, covering full tuition and a living stipend. He brings to his coaching work a distinctive asset: having personally sat the SAT (1490), GRE (321), TOEFL (113), and IELTS (8.5), he is one of the few coaches who can speak to standardized testing strategy from direct, documented experience across both the US and UK systems.
Beyond his teaching and research, Anupam serves as Editor-in-Chief of Muktipotro and co-founder of Muktiforum, a youth civic organization, and has authored two monographs now used as course texts at institutions including SOAS and NYU, alongside peer-reviewed publications in South Asia Research and the Journal of Bangladesh Studies. This editorial depth makes him a sharp and demanding reader of personal statements, able to help students find and refine their own intellectual voice rather than fit a generic template. Fluent in English and Bangla, with advanced Hindi and Urdu, he is particularly well-positioned to support South Asian students navigating the UK and US admissions systems.
