About Zexi

Zexi Liu is a PhD candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. He earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, with work spanning integrated circuit design, biomedical devices, and imaging systems.

At CMU, Zexi has served as an award-winning teaching assistant for the advanced analog integrated circuit design course. Before and during graduate school, he gained industry experience at Apple, Cirrus Logic, Fermilab, Micron Technology, and Western Digital, and spent more than two years with LeanMed Innovation, a Pittsburgh-based healthcare startup, where he helped develop a solar-powered oxygen generation system for resource-limited settings — work that earned the team the Pittsburgh Innovation Challenge Award and Health Disparity Bonus Award.

Having worked across large companies, research labs, and a small startup, Zexi specializes in helping students navigate not just the graduate application process, but also the range of opportunities they might pursue once they arrive.
