Hello! I am a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep and a Financial Engineering student at Columbia University. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
I grew up in Shanghai, China, and received my undergraduate degree from Peking University, majoring in Finance. My solid knowledge base in finance and economics, as well as my great interest in math and programming, prompted me into the magic field of financial engineering. I actively sought internship opportunities in China and consolidated my technical skills through real practice. It was both an interesting and fulfilling experience to gain insights into this brand-new field, and I am deeply attracted by the rigorous thinking and real impact behind it.
For instance, my programming skills were consolidated during my eight-month internship at Taichuang Asset Management Company, where I focused on factor analysis and built 65 effective mixed factors based on fundamental analysis. During one research project, I reproduced IPCA model referring to ALS algorithm, which was proposed based on the major shortcoming of PCA algorithm. I further used instruments and the model to explain and predict stock yields. I also gained experience with front-end design at Shenwan Hongyuan Securities Company, where I created a back-testing platform that was applied into practice, helping the company to test strategies’ results more efficiently and accurately.
Based on my background, I decided to pursue my graduate study in Columbia University’s MSFE program. We indeed have tough and challenging courses, but all of them are useful. I enjoy the process of figuring out one and another obstacle and grasping the inner essence in the end.
Finally, I would like to highlight my communication and organization skills. I enjoy volunteering and teaching. For example, I served as Vice Minister of the Propaganda Department of Youth League Committee at Peking University, and also as Team Leader of the “Dare to Dream” International Cultural Exchange and Teaching Volunteering Program. Therefore, I am confident in my ability to guide you through the application process, and I’m also very willing to give back my past experience and share my tips. Writing is my strength, as I received full marks in TOEFL writing. I can help you clarify the logic and details of your resume and personal statement thoroughly.
