Alvin Gordián Arroyo is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in Illinois and is currently a medical student at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he is a recipient of a full-tuition merit-based scholarship. He also received a full scholarship to attend Harvard University, where he earned his BA in Human Evolutionary Biology. He later completed his MPH at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health as a Gates Millennium Scholar.
Alvin has a deep passion for helping people realize their full potential through higher education. At Harvard, he served for three years as a student coordinator for the Undergraduate Minority Recruitment Program, supporting and empowering underrepresented students through mentorship, outreach, and programming. He also serves as an active student interviewer and admissions committee member at the University of Chicago, bringing a thoughtful, equity-focused perspective to application reviews and interviews. He has extensive experience advising students applying to undergraduate, graduate, and medical school programs, helping demystify the process and championing students from all backgrounds.
Alongside his work in admissions and mentoring, Alvin is deeply engaged in research aimed at advancing health equity. His research interests include HIV/AIDS, substance use disorders, and improving mental health care for underserved and marginalized communities. He has contributed to public health and clinical research projects addressing these issues at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and at the University of Chicago, as well as mentoring undergraduate researchers in the process. These experiences reflect his ongoing commitment to addressing disparities in care through both scholarship and advocacy.
As a Graduate Coach, Alvin has advised dozens of students as they navigated college, graduate school, and medical school admissions. He believes his creative, culturally-attuned, and empathetic approach allows him to meet each student where they are, crafting tailored strategies that honor their authentic identities, lived experiences, and aspirations.
