I’m a Chinese-American Californian who has been living in China for the last 7 years. I double-majored in Psychology and Chinese Studies as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, and pursued an MA at Harvard’s Regional Studies East Asia program, where I concentrated on Chinese history of the Ming and Qing dynasties. I’ve worked with students in SAT and SSAT test preparation, and in small classes in world history and literature, as well as individual tutorials in writing.
As a big history buff, my favorite part of teaching was working with students on understanding the major events of world history and why it should matter to them today. As the former interview and assessment manager at Vericant, I’ve interviewed hundreds of boarding school, college, and graduate applicants from China heading for schools in the US and Canada. Each student was an unique insight into family, education, and dreams of Chinese students, and a reminder that heading abroad for school is both an exciting and challenging experience for students and parents alike.
My hobbies include cooking, long runs, and listening to music. In my spare time, I volunteer for an English-speaking helpline for the international community in China, which offers free, confidential, and anonymous emotional support and information for callers.
