Manuel Reis Carneiro is a Graduate Coach at InGenius Prep. He recently completed a dual-degree Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, earning two doctorates from Carnegie Mellon University (USA) and the University of Coimbra (Portugal). Earlier, he graduated from the University of Coimbra’s integrated B.S./M.S. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a specialization in Automation. He also broadened his perspective through an Erasmus term at the Polytechnic University of Turin in Italy. His doctoral research, focused on high-fidelity on-skin bioelectronics built from sustainable soft materials, has already yielded publications in Advanced Functional Materials and Advanced Science and multiple patent filings.
Born and raised in Portugal, Manuel is a native Portuguese speaker who works fluently in English and comfortably in Spanish, French, and German. Crossing cultures and continents for his studies has taught him the value of clear communication and open-minded collaboration—skills he now channels into mentorship. The first in his family to pursue a doctorate abroad, he remembers navigating unfamiliar academic systems and scholarship applications with limited guidance; that experience fuels his determination to demystify the process for others.
As a researcher, Manuel bridges engineering and human impact: designing recyclable soft-matter electronics for healthcare, leading entrepreneurship projects that turn laboratory prototypes into real-world solutions, and winning innovation and scientific prizes. Equally important to him is education: he has taught university-level mechatronics, built STEM courses for K-12 students, and supervised more than a dozen master’s theses—always with an emphasis on hands-on learning and inclusive access to technology.
As a Graduate Coach, Manuel brings the same curiosity, rigor, and empathy to every advising session. He helps applicants translate their achievements into compelling stories, showing how technical passion, cultural identity, and personal resilience can fit together in a cohesive application narrative. Whether guiding a future engineer through a research statement or a budding entrepreneur through extracurricular strategy, Manuel is committed to making the admissions journey strategic, empowering, and fun.
