Renée Donovan is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep. She is also an educator, and curriculum designer with over seven years of experience teaching English/Language Arts. She received her BA from Stanford University, where she majored in Human Biology and minored in English. During her time at Stanford, she was selected to write a weekly opinion column for The Stanford Daily, reaching over 15,000 readers. She also worked as a writing tutor for the Hume Center for Writing and Speaking, providing one-on-one sessions to improve undergraduate and graduate students’ writing skills.
Upon graduating, Renée worked as an Editorial Assistant at University of California Press before pursuing her true passion: teaching high school English. She has taught English and writing for over seven years at elite college preparatory schools including The Branson School in the San Francisco Bay Area and Marymount High School in Los Angeles. In addition to classroom teaching, she created and launched an online English/Language Arts enrichment program for edtech startup Juni Learning. She also tutors private clients with a focus on the personal statement for college applications. Renée also has special experience in athletic recruitment and supporting students with learning differences.
As a Graduate Coach, Renée has worked with hundreds of students and tutoring clients. She believes that each student has the capacity to be an excellent writer, and that excellence starts with igniting each student’s passion for storytelling. In her work coaching clients to write personal statements, she guides students through brainstorming, free-writing, and self-discovery pre-writing activities to clarify each student’s purpose before they begin drafting. Renée is a careful listener and encouraging mentor whose goal is to make each student feel seen, heard, and capable.
