Hi, I’m Robert, a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep, based in Minneapolis and Vietnam. I did my PhD in Performance Studies at Northwestern University, where I received a master’s degree in the same field. My doctoral research focuses on the performance of legal rituals and restorative justice. I’m a graduate legal fellow at Northwestern and a volunteer in many justice initiatives throughout the Chicago legal community. I have also supported doctoral admissions committees at Northwestern and volunteered as a graduate liaison to prospective grad students throughout my time on campus.
I’m blessed that my work experiences have routinely aligned with my passion for teaching and learning. I’ve taught writing and literature in various environments ranging from universities to public schools to recovery residences. In all settings, I believe in the power of stories to effect positive change. Anything is possible if we can effectively communicate who we are and where we are headed. I trust in our endless ability to transform ourselves and our world for the better, and have dedicated most of my professional to researching the role story plays is creating a more just planet. The journey toward higher education is one of the most significant times in a person’s life, and I feel privileged to support students in this endeavor. I coach with warmth and empathy and believe there’s absolutely no substitute for Doing the Work!
I usually have my nose in a book away from work, only looking up to occasionally plan my next adventure. I have the eternally curious brain of a researcher—anything from history to philosophy to cryptocurrency. And I’m the proud parent of two French bulldogs.
