Hello! I am a Graduate Coach at InGenius Prep. I just moved back to the States from Beijing, where I worked as an assistant professor at Tsinghua University in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
I moved to Beijing in 2017 after completing my PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan. My academic work focuses on literature and philosophy, and the topics of my Tsinghua courses range from ancient epic poetry to the European Enlightenment to experimental fiction from the twentieth century. At Michigan, I was a German language instructor for seven years. Before graduate school, I worked as a high school debate coach in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area while studying at Macalester College.
Working with students has been the most consistent and meaningful part of my professional life. Counseling, advising, mentorship—whatever form it takes, the opportunity to help students reach their goals and progress to the next stage is, for me, what higher education is all about. I have been fortunate to work with hundreds of talented students from diverse backgrounds in both the United States and China. At Tsinghua, where admissions counseling is a major part of my role, I have supervised Chinese students’ successful applications to many of the most prestigious academic programs in the world.
In my free time, I am usually reading, jogging, or playing music. I look forward to meeting you!
