Victoria Wiet is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep who brings a deep understanding of higher education from the inside. Raised in the greater Chicago area, she spent her first decade of adulthood in Boston and New York before returning to the Midwest.
After earning her BA in English (summa cum laude) from Brandeis University and her PhD in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University, Victoria taught for a year as a Lecturer in Harvard University’s History & Literature program and five years as an assistant professor at DePauw University in Indiana. In addition to receiving prizes for her senior thesis, master’s essay, and doctoral dissertation, she received a Teaching Scholars Award for innovative course design at Columbia and a Certificate of Teaching Excellence from Harvard.
Academic advising and teaching writing were the cornerstones of her work as a faculty member, and she’s excited to bring this experience to helping students prepare to enter higher education. As a mentor and writing coach, Victoria values individual exploration. Instead of reverse engineering a resume or essay based on assumptions about what admissions readers or employers want, Victoria encourages students to identify what they care most about and cultivate the breadth of their unique interests.
As a Graduate Coach, Victoria does not simply believe that there is no single profile that the “ideal” candidate must fit—she’s ready to put that principle into action. With over 12 years of experience as an educator at a wide range of institutions, Victoria has taught students from every educational and geographic background and whose interests span the field of college course offerings, from aspiring actors to prospective physicians. She especially loves working with students whose interests bridge the humanities and STEM and has guided undergraduate students to admission to prestigious MD, JD, and PhD programs before coming to InGenius Prep.
Because of her passion for the intersection between teaching and customer service, Victoria is currently pursuing an MS in Library and Information Science at Simmons University. When working with her, you can expect her to not just give expert advice on writing but to help you master the technical and research tasks that come with navigating college admissions!
