About Arman Ghaffarizadeh

Hello! I am a Graduate Coach at InGenius Prep and currently a PhD student at the Mechanical Engineering Department at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Previously, I graduated from University of Toronto, in Canada with Bachelor’s (High Honours) and Master’s of Mechanical Engineering.

I grew up in Tehran and Toronto, and in a family of engineers! My passion for mathematics, physics and chemistry made Mechanical Engineering a suitable degree for me. I obtained my Mechanical Engineering degree with a minor is sustainability. Over all four summers, I performed research with different faculty members across various fields such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and material science. Based on my academic and research excellence I was awarded numerous NSERC scholarships. In my master’s studies, I was a Russell A. Reynolds Graduate Fellow in thermodynamics and was awarded the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) for my work on multiphase systems.

Throughout my academic career, I have published a number of peer-reviewed papers, presented and contributed to more than 10 conferences. Outside my day-to-day research interest, I conducted and published an international study on the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the life and work of academic researchers. Recently, I co-authored a manuscript presented at the mechanical engineering division of American Society for Engineering Education. I also served as a teaching assistant and course lecturer for courses of size 25 to 190. Over the past 4 years, I have helped more than 20 undergraduate students with their graduate school and scholarship applications in the US and Canada. I found student advocacy inspiring and as a result, I served on numerous committees such as DEI task force, academic affair committee, graduate education committee, etc. I worked closely with the faculties and staff in charge of the PhD qualification exam and conducted more than 20 mock exams for first year students.

Outside of school and work, I am an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer, I enjoy playing soccer and tennis and love to travel.

I am excited to work together and look forward to helping you achieve your goals.
