Hello! My name is Maria Jose, I am a lawyer specializing in banking law and finance. I am also a Graduate Coach at InGenius Prep. I studied law at the Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Paraguay. I started working at a very young age, when I was in my second year of law school — first as an intern and then as a law clerk at a Court of Civil and Commercial Appeals. This experience was when I started to deepen in the field of commercial law and decided that I wanted to specialize and work in the area of banking law and finance. Later, I was promoted as a law clerk at the Paraguayan Supreme Court of Justice, where I am currently working; my job is basically to solve cases related mostly to banking law and financial markets.
After college, I pursued a Master’s degree in banking law and financial institutions in Spain at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid – CUNEF, an enriching experience not only at a professional, but also at a personal level. Two years later, in order to complement that regulatory knowledge with its financial and numerical part, I pursued the Master in Law and Finance at the University of Oxford, being the first Paraguayan ever admitted into it.
My own experiences allowed me to learn a lot about application processes for universities and scholarships, and I am excited to guide and help students to achieve their dreams.
In my free time I like to dance, practice yoga and Pilates, travel, read, and hike with my dogs. I also have recently started studying Portuguese; I like challenges and I need to feel that I am learning new things all the time.
