Hello, students and parents! My name is Annie, but my friends in Chengdu call me 安逸. I’m a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I have been a college counselor and teacher for the past five years for students in China.
I majored in political science at Barnard College, Columbia University. I also began studying Mandarin and studied abroad in China in 2002. While at Barnard, I worked as an assistant in the Barnard Admissions Office and enjoyed giving tours of our beautiful campus. I graduated magna cum laude in 2004 and, following graduation, I conducted research on economic development in Yunnan, China, with support from a Fulbright Grant.
After returning from China, I worked as a paralegal at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., for several years before applying to Ph.D. programs in political science. I was excited to win a Cup Fellowship for China Studies at the University of Washington and moved to Seattle to pursue my graduate degree.
As a graduate student, I won thirteen competitive academic awards between 2008-2013 including a Fulbright-Hays Dissertation Development Research Award and a three-year graduate student fellowship in China Studies. I co-authored one book and two articles published in prestigious academic journals with a rigorous peer-review process. I’ve used my experience as a teacher at the University of Washington and as a researcher to mentor many high school students who are preparing to attend universities in the U.S. I love to work with students one-on-one and be a part of their future success.
Outside of work, I love hiking and camping in the beautiful Colorado mountains. I love to travel and am also a licensed yoga teacher. If you came to my home, you’d see that I also love to cook and bake foods from all over the world!
