Hello! I am a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep and live in Houston, Texas. I earned my undergraduate degree at Rice University where I majored in Psychology and double-minored in Biochemistry and Cell Biology as well as Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities. After graduating, I spent seven years teaching middle school science to seventh and eighth graders in the Spring Branch area of Houston. As a teacher, I had the opportunity to coordinate a peer mentorship program between older and younger middle school students which gave me insight into the need for greater socioemotional support for students. This motivated me to pursue my master’s in counseling, which I am currently completing at Northwestern University.
My time as an educator gave me great insight into the complexities and stressors of the education system and I learned valuable knowledge about how to help students navigate those systems. I’ve had the privilege of mentoring several former students through high school as they prepare for college and always enjoy the energy and optimism they bring to the process. I believe each student has natural strengths that can be nurtured and leveraged to provide them with enriching experiences throughout high school and beyond. When working with students, I aim to provide an understanding, supportive environment that allows for the important work of applying to college to be an experience that is energizing rather than draining.
Outside of work, I enjoy mindfulness and wellness activities such as yoga and meditation, which I have been leaning on more as I pursue my master’s degree. I am also an avid lover of music (all types) and particularly enjoy attending concerts. I also adore the outdoors and try to infuse nature into my life as much as possible. Finally, since I hold a teaching license, I also tutor elementary-aged students in my spare time and really enjoy working with younger students as well as high school students.
