Felix Gonzalez Islas is a Former Admissions Officer at the University of Chicago, where he earned both his BA in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and his MA in the Social Sciences, with a concentration in Education and Society. A first-generation, rural, low-income student himself, he arrived at UChicago as a QuestBridge National College Match recipient and Odyssey Scholar, and graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors.
Felix began in admissions as a Coalition Application intern before becoming a campus tour guide, ultimately leading more than 330 tours for prospective students and families. He then joined the Office of College Admissions as a Junior Admission Counselor and Metcalf Fellow, reading and advocating for more than 700 applications for the College and its Summer Session programs, presenting dozens of counselor info sessions, and helping coordinate large-scale prospective-student programming. He also serves as a QuestBridge Seasonal Reader.
Born in central Mexico and raised in East Tennessee, Felix brings particular insight into the college process for rural, immigrant, and first-generation students, combining practical guidance on admissions, financial aid, and essay writing with support for self-reflection and self-advocacy.
