Jose Marco Antonio is a Graduate Coach at InGenius Prep and a graduate of Harvard College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Biology, magna cum laude with high honors. He currently serves youth and young adults experiencing housing instability as an AmeriCorps Youth and Family Health Coordinator at Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, and he is applying to medical school.
Jose’s passion for college counseling grew out of his own experience navigating complex systems. Having immigrated from the Philippines, he saw how much his family’s path depended on the guidance of others, and his own success in the college application process came through a family friend turned mentor. In college, he paid that support forward by privately helping family friends and mutual contacts gain admission to Harvard College and Middlebury College, among others. At Harvard, he directed a mentorship program for refugee and immigrant children and worked as a peer tutor in organic chemistry, physics, and foundational biology. After graduating, he spent a year on a Fulbright grant teaching English at an underserved middle school in Taipei, Taiwan.
Jose also brings a research and health-policy background to his coaching. As a Cordeiro Fellow at Harvard, he led an independent health-policy project on hemophilia care access in the Philippines, published in The Lancet Regional Health: Southeast Asia. He has also conducted research at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, served as a Mindich Fellow with the New York State Department of Health’s AIDS Institute, and currently sits on the Rare Genomes Equity Project Community Advisory Board and the Boston Bleeding Disorders Center Advisory Board.
As a Graduate Coach, Jose takes pride in building relationships across language and cultural barriers, and he enjoys hearing students’ stories and helping them become the best version of themselves. His experience as a mentor, tutor, researcher, and teacher shapes a coaching approach centered on understanding each student’s background and helping them present it with confidence.
