About Katie Leishear

Katie is a Former Admissions Officer with InGenius Prep based in Peru. She received her BA from a small liberal arts school in Virginia, and subsequently received her Masters of Education emphasis in School Counseling from Loyola University Maryland. Katie has spent the last 14 years working as a school counselor, with 10 of those years spent working internationally doing high school and college counseling for prestigious schools with rigorous college preparatory curriculums. She has extensive experience building robust college counseling programs that are both developmentally appropriate and comprehensive in nature.

Katie has vast experience working with students who are applying to highly selective schools and has successfully guided students to gain acceptance at some of the world’s most prestigious universities. Furthermore, her role as a college counselor has provided Katie the opportunity to work with students from varying backgrounds and socioeconomic status, and thus Katie has guided students who need to gain both merit and financial need to universities. Katie has spent her time as a college counselor cultivating relationships with university reps and has led and organized countless university fairs and visits. In 2023, as a result of her efforts in the realm of college counseling, she was selected as IC3’s LATAM Counselor of the Year.  In addition to her role as a high school and college counselor, Katie has served, and continues to serve, on the two committees for International Association for College Admissions Counselor.

As part of her membership on the professional development committee, Katie takes the lead in both leading and recruiting counselors from around the world to lead professional development for other counselor’s in the field on a variety of topics that range from essay writing, applications in various countries, competitive sports in the US, and so forth. In her other committee, Katie was selected as a mentor to assist new counselors in their role as college counselors in high schools. Katie has served as an application reader for University of California Los Angeles for the past three years, which has provided her with critical insight into highly selective admission from the other side of the desk.
