Hello, I’m Melisa! I am a first-generation student at Yale Law School. I received my Bachelor’s from Wesleyan University, where I double-majored in Neuroscience & Behavior and Science in Society. While at Wesleyan, I worked in the Schizophrenia Cognition Laboratory and investigated how institutions of oppression and medicine work in tandem to further exacerbate marginalization for communities of color – and I intend to continue this research while at Yale as I pursue health law and academia.
Applying to both college and law school as a first-generation student was a challenge, and I hope to pass along what I’ve learned through mentoring others. I strive to help students cultivate their voice as they embark on the next step in their academic journey.
In my free time, you can find me baking cupcakes without a recipe, reading books, or hanging out with my cats.
