About Mohamed

Dr. Mohamed ‘Arafa is a Former Admissions Officer with InGenius Prep whose work with students sits at the intersection of rigorous academic mentorship and real-world legal expertise. He specializes in guiding students pursuing pre-law, international relations, political science, and global affairs tracks, helping them develop the advanced critical thinking, independent research skills, and analytical writing fluency that distinguish truly competitive applications at the world’s top universities. As a professor who has taught across five continents and a scholar whose work has been cited in federal court, he brings an unusually high standard to every student he coaches — and a genuine passion for helping the next generation of legal and global affairs thinkers find and sharpen their voice.

In his coaching practice, Dr. ‘Arafa draws directly on the skills he uses at the highest levels of the profession. He helps students design original independent research projects grounded in the same comparative legal frameworks he publishes in; he teaches the analytical writing style expected at elite institutions because he writes for the Cornell International Law Journal and the Yale Journal of Regulation; and he prepares international students for the American admissions process with firsthand knowledge of what a Cornell Law School faculty member actually looks for. Speaking Arabic, English, French, and Portuguese, he is particularly well-positioned to support multilingual and internationally-based students navigating a competitive and often unfamiliar process.

Dr. ‘Arafa holds an LLB from Alexandria University, an LLM from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and an SJD — the terminal degree in law — from Indiana University. He currently serves as a Professor of Law at Alexandria University and as Adjunct Professor of Law and Clarke Initiative Visiting Scholar at Cornell Law School, where he teaches Comparative Islamic and Middle Eastern Law and Anti-Corruption Laws: Rule of Law, Practice, and Public Policy. He was named one of the “10 African Scholars to Watch in 2025” by The Africa Report. His scholarship spans international and comparative law, constitutional law, criminal law, white-collar crime, anti-corruption, Islamic law, and human rights, with publications in Cambridge University Press, the Cornell International Law Journal, the Yale Journal of Regulation, and dozens of leading journals across five continents. He has served as Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Middle East and Islamic Studies at the Arab Law Quarterly (Brill Publishing House) and sits on the editorial boards of LexisNexis Middle East and multiple international law reviews. His work has been featured by The Huffington Post, Law 360, and the Cornell Chronicle.

Dr. ‘Arafa’s global academic footprint reflects a career built entirely at the highest levels of international legal scholarship. He has taught, lectured, and presented at leading institutions including Cornell Law School, Harvard Law School, Georgetown University, UC Berkeley Law School, the University of Texas at Austin, and the Sorbonne in Paris, as well as at law schools across Australia, Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Egypt. Most notably, he was retained by the United States Department of Justice as an Expert Witness in a federal FCPA corruption trial in the Western District of Pennsylvania — one of the most authoritative distinctions available to a legal scholar, and a direct reflection of the real-world legal depth he brings to every student who works with him.
