Tynéa Henry is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in Delaware. She earned her BA in American Studies with a concentration in African American & African Diaspora Studies from Columbia University. As an American Studies major, her academic journey primarily focused on the intersections of law and the American education system.
Tynéa began her college mentorship career working as both a Residential Teaching Assistant for Freedom and Citizenship (F&C) and a College Success Mentor for the Roger Lehecka Double Discovery Center (DDC). There, she worked directly with students to synthesize college-level materials into insightful writing assignments and offered one-on-one admissions mentorship for first-generation, low-income students in New York City during the academic year. Her guidance facilitated a record number of students matriculating to top 20 colleges through the QuestBridge College Match for the F&C 2023 cohort.
Following graduation, Tynéa honed her narrative and editing skills working as a Special Projects Intern for the Incite Institute, an interdisciplinary research center at Columbia. Concurrently, she interned in the chambers of recently-retired New York State Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron. Throughout these roles, Tynéa continued to mentor students through their college admissions process.
As a Graduate Coach, Tynéa views effective counseling as being a collaborative and introspective process. This approach allows her to help students effectively and authentically depict themselves to admissions counselors while forming a sense of self to ground themselves as they enter college.
