Dr. Alexis Marianes is a dedicated scientist and educator with extensive experience in research, teaching, and mentorship. Her academic journey has taken her to institutions in seven countries, providing her with a global perspective on education and research. Alexis’s passion for the life sciences began early in her undergraduate studies, leading her to pursue a PhD in Cell, Molecular, Developmental Biology, and Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University and postdoctoral training at the Medical University of South Carolina and Hollings Marine Lab. She has held faculty positions at the College of Charleston and the University of the West Indies, where she designed and taught a variety of courses in ecology and biochemistry.
Throughout her career, Alexis has actively sought opportunities to mentor and guide students. She served as a laboratory instructor for pre-medical undergraduate students at Johns Hopkins University and has mentored numerous students through research experiences. Alexis believes in fostering a supportive learning environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential. She is committed to helping students identify their academic goals and develop strategic plans for success.
Alexis’s diverse experiences and interactions with students from various backgrounds have equipped her with a unique understanding of successful strategies for navigating the application process. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, crafting, playing guitar, traveling, birdwatching, and volleyball.
