Allison Kurthy is a Former Admissions Officer with InGenius Prep, based in the Western New York area. She earned her BA in psychology, with minors in sociology, mathematics, and the honors program, from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. After taking a gap year to participate in the Disney College Program, she earned her MS in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY.
Upon earning her master’s, Allison worked as the Program Manager for Honors Student Recruitment & Success at Northeastern University. In this role, she served as a liaison between Undergraduate Admissions and the University Honors Program and assisted in recruiting the next class of talented Honors Huskies. She also rebuilt their internal admissions process, allowing current Northeastern students to apply to the Honors Program. During this time, Allison also served as an Application Reader for Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology to better understand the college admissions process at highly selective institutions.
As an Academic Advisor and Transfer/Internal Admissions Coordinator in the University at Buffalo’s Honors College, she supported a full caseload of Honors students in biology, biomedical science, and related majors on their journey to medical, dental, and other professional schools or careers in STEM. She was also chiefly responsible for the recruitment of transfer and current UB students into the Honors College. Additionally, she assisted in the annual review of applications for UB’s Presidential Scholars program, the most selective and highly valued award in the SUNY system.
As a Former Admissions Officer, Allison strives to be not just student-centered, but student-led. Her experience as an advisor allows her to build meaningful relationships with students to help them uncover their strengths and passions and reach their full potential as higher education admission candidates. She aims to empower students to make the most of their college search and serve as a resource throughout the process– not to help you fit the mold, but to find the mold that fits you.
