Mihir Kumar is an Former Admissions Officer with InGenius Prep who is currently an MD Candidate at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His academic path began at the University of Southern California (USC), where he was awarded a full-tuition Trustee Scholarship, graduating with a B.S. in Human Biology, a B.A. in Economics, and a Minor in Mathematical Finance. He received the Order of the Laurel and Palm, the highest distinction given to less than 1% of USC graduates for leadership and service.
Professionally, Mihir founded his own private counseling practice, which has since supported hundreds of families across the U.S. and internationally. He has personally advised more than 250 students one-on-one on applications to competitive undergraduate and graduate programs. His career also includes experience in economic and financial consulting at Cornerstone Research.
Mihir is known for his personalized counseling style, which focuses on helping students uncover their genuine interests and build experiences (like research, unique projects, or starting nonprofits) around those passions, rather than simply “checking boxes.” He has also dedicated significant time to expanding educational access, creating and managing programs that provided pro bono tutoring and counseling to over 500 low-income families through USC’s Neighborhood Academic Initiative. As a Former Admissions Officer, he views his work in counseling and medicine as connected, requiring the same empathy and guidance skills.
