Monica West is a Graduate Coach with InGenius Prep based in Seattle, Washington. She earned her BA in English Literature and African American Studies from Duke University, an MA in English and American Literature from New York University, and an MFA in Creative Writing-Fiction from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. An award-winning published novelist and an experienced educator, Monica has taught English at the high school, college, and graduate levels. She leverages her extensive teaching experience to guide students through the college admissions process.
Monica has guided students at some of the nation’s most prestigious independent schools through every aspect of the college application process, leading to acceptances at top schools like Brown, Columbia, Stanford, and Yale. In addition to her coaching, she is an accomplished writer. Her debut novel, Revival Season, was a New York Times Editors’ Choice and received critical acclaim from The Washington Post, The Seattle Times, and The Boston Globe.
Her coaching style is cooperative and collaborative–she believes in conversations that help students identify their individualized academic and extracurricular strengths. Monica will guide students through every step of the application process, focusing on highlighting their diverse life experiences in a way that translates well to college admissions officers.
