Hello! I’m a chartered civil engineer working in the construction industry currently in the UK. I graduated with a Masters in Engineering from the University of Cambridge and went straight into the contracting sector where I’ve worked across a number of projects for 2 major international contractors for airports, infrastructure, subways, education, residential and commercial clients. I was transferred out to Hong Kong in 2015 to work on the construction of an extension to an existing subway system including tunnelling works, and on completion of that project I returned to the UK.
Coaching and mentoring is something I have been heavily involved with following my chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineers and work with the Social Mobility Foundation in the UK, and I find it incredibly rewarding to partake in. My international work experience alongside my upbringing (I was born in India and raised in the UK) makes me feel very fortunate to be in my current position. I hope that my diverse experiences will be something I can share with you all in the time to come.
I’ve always been motivated to help people and the environment around me which is what drove me into my engineering profession originally. On the side I’ve continued to be involved with voluntary and charity work through education, wildlife conservation, soup kitchens, distance running, swimming and more! I had a wonderful set of teachers and incredibly motivating parents who made sure I could try my best and taught me to work hard at everything I had the opportunity to try, and it’s instilled a passion to continue to spread these opportunities to keen people like you!
Away from my career, I love to cook all types of cuisine although I have less patience for baking! I play badminton and run and have recently gotten into home work-outs. I love most types of music though I haven’t quite got my head accustomed to heavy-metal. I can play the piano and sing, and I used to play the drums and percussion in orchestras and big bands although I don’t get so much time for this now! I was a Kick-boxer at university, but have been practicing Karate for the last 2 years instead. In Hong Kong I spent a lot of time hiking and exploring the different less-touristy spots of the city, and in general I love languages, food and culture so when I can, I do like to travel! My absolute dream would be to go back into wildlife conservation – you’d be surprised to know that my first career-thought was actually veterinary medicine…! Who says the options aren’t open to you!
